The University of Regina’s wastewater report, released Monday, did not categorize by Omicron subvariants, but it does reflect a significant drop. During the week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, Regina’s viral load levels decreased from moderate-high the previous week to moderate. Giesy said the lab is working to make those tests more quantitative, rather than just determining whether the virus is present or not. In addition, some smaller communities, including in the north, have been set up to do their own testing.
Giesy noted that the lab will close on Dec. 22. That means the last update from the lab will come Dec. 18, with data collection resuming Jan. 3, 2022.
