Pembantu rumah warga asing turut menghubungi talian berkenaan kerana berasa tidak selamat selepas terpaksa berkurung dengan keluarga majikan. Apa yang menjadi kebimbangan adalah pekerja ini akan bersaing dengan warga tempatan yang turut kehilangan kerja dan mempunyai peluang yang tipis untuk menjana pendapatan ketika kemelesetan, kata Das.

“MTUC mencadangkan kerajaan dan majikan mencari alternatif untuk mulakan semula segelintir industri dan memastikan mereka mematuhi prosedur kesihatan yang ketat,” kata Presiden MTUC Abdul Halim Mansor. Menurut Persekutuan Majikan Malaysia , syarikat yang membawa pekerja asing juga bertanggungjawab untuk menghantar mereka pulang sekiranya mereka tidak mampu sediakan pekerjaan.

MEF tidak dapat menganggarkan sama ada berlaku pemberhentian kerja kerana ia bergantung kepada berapa lama PKP dilanjutkan dan berapa pantas perniagaan boleh pulih selepas PKP. Institut Penyelidikan Ekonomi Malaysia menganggarkan kira-kira 2.4 juta daripada 14 juta pekerja akan diberhentikan kerana pandemik itu.
