The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) on Thursday said the number of its COVID-19 patients has already exceeded its 130-bed allocation for coronavirus cases.
“Kami po ay halos puno na rin. Actually kung ang pag babasehan ay ang allocated beds namin…na 130, eh lagpas na po kami doon ,” UP-PGH Spokesperson Jonas del Rosario told DZMM Teleradyo.
PGH currently has 172 COVID-19 patients, out of these 145 are confirmed, 22 are suspects, and five are probable cases. Del Rosario said its current number of patients is the highest recorded in the past three months and a half. Del Rosario said the hospital has set up an “buffer beds” in a different area for its other COVID-19 patients which can no longer be accommodated in their designated COVID-19 wards.
“Tawag po namin doon at mga holding area, kasi minsan dadating sila, di pa naman sila COVID-19 [positive], at sila ay i-te-test or kailangan na rin ipasok dahil and kanilang mga symtomas ay maaring COVID-19 (We call it the holding area. It is for patients who have yet to be tested but have COVID related symptoms,” he said.
Del Rosario said the easing of quarantine measures and increased testing have both contributed to the increase in the number of COVID-19 patients.
