COVID19 lockdown period in Metro Manila, other areas to be decided Monday: Roque

MANILA - Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Saturday a decision on whether or not the period of the lockdown in areas at high risk for COVID-19, including Metro Manila, may be decided by Monday, as the government continues to study the implications of a more relaxed quarantine in some cities.

Metrics on the capacity of local government units to provide critical care will be considered as the government makes its decision on Metro Manila, Roque said in the Laging Handa briefing, Saturday. The capital region is believed to be the epicenter of the virus in the Philippines. For now, Roque said they are eyeing a "granular and surgical" transition to a general community quarantine in Metro Manila, saying not all lockdowns in areas in the capital region may be relaxed nor extended.

He added: "Hindi po mananatili sa ECQ ang buong Metro Manila on May 16 at hindi naman po ilalagay sa GCQ ang Metro Manila after May 16. it will be granular, it will be surgical."
