KOTA KINABALU: The public has been urged to donate blood as the blood banks in Sabah are running low in supply, as the number of donors has been reduced by 24% since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).
Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said this was also because almost all blood donation drives were cancelled during the MCO.
She said blood donations must continue as there are many patients needing blood to save their lives and added that blood donations can be made at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu and many other hospitals statewide. She added that those who have travelled overseas in the past 28 days are not encouraged to donate as of now and also said that anyone who has come in contact with Covid-19 patients or their close contacts can also postpone their intention to donate until further notice.
She added that Muslims can contribute during this fasting month and said that there are some guidelines which they can follow if they are interested in donating blood.
