“I received a lot of backlash from the community, but it’s very important to understand that the people who are affected need support,” Myers said. “Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat the pain and swelling that comes with lupus. But lupus being the invisible disease hardly spoken of, there is no one advocating it. We hear that there are shortages of hydroxychloroquine due to it being used for Covid-19.
Steven Fourie, a paramedic who is living with asthma, said the challenge he faced was that as a first responder he had to be extremely careful.“The disadvantage with living with asthma is that this virus finds us as weaklings because we have a respiratory disadvantage. It’s scary to deal with patients who are infected because I know I can be next. This virus is a threat to everyone, but mostly to those with existing conditions,” said Fourie.
“Gauteng is doing more tests than most other provinces and we’ll be starting to screen and test people at shopping malls and shopping centres, because those are among the areas we’re worried about in terms of transmission.”
