KDNK Thailand menguncup 1.8% pada suku pertama 2020 berbanding 2019 berikutan pandemik Covid-19 yang menjejaskan sektor pelancongan dan mengurangkan aktiviti-aktiviti perniagaan.
Menurut laporan mengenai unjuran dan situasi sosial Thailand bagi suku pertama 2020, agensi perancangan negara itu berkata, sebanyak 2.5 juta pekerja sektor pelancongan, 1.5 juta pekerja perindustrian dan 4.4 juta pekerja dalam sektor perkhidmatan menghadapi risiko kehilangan mata pencarian mereka. NESDC berkata, seramai 6 juta petani turut terjejas terhadap akibat musim kemarau yang berterusan sejak pertengahan 2019.
Berikutan situasi Covid-19 di Thailand yang semakin pulih dengan mencatat jumlah kes harian yang rendah, negara itu mula melonggarkan langkah sekatannya dengan membuka semula operasi perniagaan dan lokasi di negara itu sejak 3 Mei lepas sebagai fasa pertama kelonggaran berkenaan bagi memacu aktiviti ekonomi.NESDC juga berkata, dianggarkan 520,000 siswazah akan memasuki pasaran untuk tempoh Mei dan Julai tahun ini dan melahirkan kebimbangan bahawa mereka mungkin tiada peluang pekerjaan.
