PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reported 10 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (July 4), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 8,658.

Of the 10 new cases, seven were imported cases involving Malaysians who had caught the virus overseas, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah .In the case of the foreigner, the virus was detected during a screening at a detention centre in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan before he was sent to prison.

Dr Noor Hisham added that one of the local cases was detected during a pre-operation screening at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM, while the other was during a health personnel screening at the Likas quarantine centre. "There are two positive Covid-19 cases who are being treated in the intensive care unit, and both cases require ventilator support," he said in a statement on Saturday .

He added that 15 patients had been discharged bringing the total cumulative discharged cases to 8,461.
