) - A pair of cousins from Lowndes County who confessed to killing two men and dumping their bodies in Tuscaloosa County have entered a guilty plea in connection to the crime. said that Keondre Jazel McCall and Mance Quinnell McCall confessed to roles in the shooting death of 23-year-old Justin Michael Whitfield and Destin Rashard Holley, 23.
Whitfield and Holley were from the Montgomery area. Keondre Jazel McCall and Mance Quinnell McCall Jr plead guilty to murdering two men and dumping their bodies in Tuscaloosa County. The investigation began on Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 2023, when deputies were called to Interstate-20/59 East in the Fosters community around 6:15 a.m. A caller reportedly said they thought they’d hit someone in the road. The caller stopped and waited on deputies and was “fully cooperative.
” On scene, deputies found a body in the road that had been hit and troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to help deputies with the accident investigation. Authorities found evidence at the scene which led them to believe the victim’s death was not the result of accidentally being hit by the passerby. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s Violent Crimes Unit was called to take over the investigation.
Around 6:55 a.m. on Jan. 8, 2023, another passerby called to report someone lying next to the road along Frog Ridge Road, also in the Fosters community. Deputies went to the scene and determined that the second victim was also dead because of an assault or shooting. VCU investigators responded to that scene as well. A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was found in the Hayneville area in Lowndes County.
Court documents showed the vehicle had a broken window and a large amount of blood and bodily tissue. There was also a ‘projectile defect’ through the drivers headrest. VCU investigators were sent to Lowndes County where they worked alongside investigators, officers and deputies of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Hayneville Police Department, Ft. Deposit Police Department, the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, Keondre McCall told investigators that he was in the backseat with Mance McCall while Whitfield and Holley were in the driver and passenger seats. Keondre McCall reportedly told authorities that he was asleep and woke up when he heard a gunshot. He claimed that Mance McCall shot and killed both victims.
Then Keondre McCall reportedly helped his cousin remove the victims’ bodies from the victims’ vehicle and left them at two different locations in Tuscaloosa County before they left the vehicle. Court documents also showed that Mance McCall confessed, telling investigators that he shot and killed Holley, who was the driver, before Mance McCall then shot Whitfield. The car came to a stop on the interstate and Whitfield was still alive, according to the records.
Mance McCall said Keondre then shot Whitfield, killing him. Keondre Jazel McCall and Mance Quinnell McCall Jr plead guilty to murdering two men and dumping their bodies in Tuscaloosa County. Mance McCall also reportedly admitted to authorities that he and Keondre McCall removed the bodies from the vehicle and left them at the two Tuscaloosa County locations before leaving a scene. Court filings didn’t list a possible motive for the murders.
Both Keondre McCall and Mance McCall were charged with capital murder in connection. However, in 2026, both men entered guilty pleas. Per court documents, on April 15, 2026, Mance McCall plead guilty to two charges of murder, a plea down from capital murder. Keondre McCall plead guilty to the same charges on July 15, 2026.
