The decision by North Carolina to replace Sylvia Hatchell with Courtney Banghart appears to be all but official. Will Bella Alarie join her?

PHILADELPHIA, PA - MARCH 11: Head coach Courtney Banghart of the Princeton Tigers holds up the netting she cut down after the win at The Palestra on March 11, 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Princeton defeated Penn 63-34. The decision by North Carolina to replace Sylvia Hatchell with Courtney Banghart appears to be all but official. Thehas accepted the offer, and the UNC board of trustees was expected to convene an emergency meeting Tuesday to confirm the deal.

Let's start with Banghart's track record. Princeton, once again, won the Ivy League and played in the NCAA Tournament in 2019, where they lost to Kentucky in the first round. The Tigers have been regular participants in the NCAA field, even with the Ivy typically a one-bid conference. Of course, Princeton itself upended that by making the field in 2015-16 as an at-large team, a season after running the regular season table undefeated.

And there have been no shortage of professional players who went through the Princeton program, including Blake Dietrick, who played for the Atlanta Dream last season. "I think she's proving it," Banghart said of Alarie, back in March, prior to the start of the Ivy League conference tournament."We've had four in the last three years in training camps, and countless overseas. So I hope people see that it doesn't preclude you from playing in the WNBA to play in the Ivy League. In some ways, it helps you. Bella's opportunity is going to be exciting.
