If you've been affected by this story and want to talk to someone, you can call the Samaritans free on 116 123 or email [email protected]."In your case, I do consider the seriousness of the offence justifies a life sentence and that is the sentence I must therefore impose upon you," says Judge Munro. Taking away the time he has spent in custody already, the minimum term is nine years, 63 days.
The judge says he does present a"significant risk to the public", due to his previous offending, his continuing interest in illegal pornography, the sudden deterioration in his mental health and the ferocity of the attack on his grandfather. She said the"mitigating factors balance out the aggravating factors", so she will not add to the minimum term of 24 years. The judge agreed with defence experts who said diagnosed medical conditions"substantially impaired your ability to form a rational judgement"."You did not think about the consequences and did not have the skills to manage conflict or see the bigger picture.
"Both your mother and your uncle expressed a serious desire and formed intent to kill your grandfather, and you had to be dissuaded by your grandmother from doing so," says Judge Munro.
