A district court judge has ruled in favor of the family of a man killed in a 2018 standoff with Anchorage Police.

Published: Dec. 17, 2024 at 6:15 PM AKSTPolice arrived at the Muldoon residence of 66-year-old Daniel Demott on Nov. 5, 2018, after receiving a report of a family dispute.

Barber says Howell called the police because her father was experiencing a mental health crisis, and that the situation escalated once officers arrived on scene. According to Barber, Demott had been experiencing a variety of mental health issues and had been in and out of psychiatric institutions.Court records indicate responders did not try to negotiate with Demott, or try to address his mental health issues.

A years-long legal battle insured. On Monday, the court ruled in favor of Demott’s daughter, Kelsey Howell, and his son, Justin Charlie.
