The Western Cape High Court has granted EFF the green light to proceed with the national shutdown scheduled for Monday, 20 March 2023:
The City filed the application to interdict the shutdown this week and is happy with the result of a peaceful protest referring to the judgement as “a victory of the rule of law”.Peaceful protest is protected. Threats of violence & looting, intimidating those who don’t want to participate – all things the EFF have done this week – these are not acceptable”the protests can go on in the Western Cape but those participating should do so within the confines of the law.
Some of the cited stipulations were that the strike should not include violence, that people should be able to travel, businesses should not be looted and no damage to schools and property.
