A life-saving kidney donor was found far closer to home for Stephen Eller than he, or his wife, ever would have expected
A Missouri couple has proven to be a perfect match not just in their marriage but also in a life-saving kidney transplant. Stephen Eller was diagnosed with kidney failure in March 2023. He was informed that he would need a donor. 'My wife really encouraged me to consider the transplant,' the donation recipient told sister station KMBC on Tuesday.Finding a perfect match can often be a challenging task.
Luke's Health Systems shared an anecdote about the eager donor's selflessness post-surgery. 'The first thing she actually asked when she woke up was, 'How is the kidney doing?' She wasn't even worried about herself. She wanted to know how the kidney was doing,' Wilkinson said.Wilkinson added that it's not uncommon for couples or family members to want to help each other and donate a kidney. But it's extremely special and rare when it works out.
