Ahead of his 13th appearance at Rodeo Houston, Country Superstar Luke Bryan chatted only with Houston Life's Derrick Shore about what keeps him coming back to Houston, his most pressure-filled moment on stage (spoiler alert: it was also in Houston), and why he decided to try something new and hop in an autonomous vehicle for the very first time.
Published:– Luke Bryan is no stranger to Rodeo Houston . In fact, 2026 marks his 13th time performing on the star stage. The country music singer, who has won multiple CMA, CMT and ACM awards and has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide, has seemingly done it all.
But ahead of his appearance at this year’s Rodeo Houston, his team exclusively invited Derrick Shore and Houston Life to capture him trying something totally new: riding in a Waymo -- an autonomous vehicle. Waymo is a 24/7 driverless service that operates in 10 major metropolitan U.S. cities, including Houston. In Houston, they service high-density areas that include Downtown, Montrose, Midtown, River Oaks, and the Heights. The company says it will continue expanding into new areas. When asked if he had any trepidation about the driverless ride, Luke explained it was no biggie compared to other firsts he’s had. “I had to sing the national anthem before the Falcons/Patriots game in Houston at the stadium here,” he explained. “That was the most stressful moment of my life, so I think I can handle getting in this Waymo; it will be okay,” he added, moments before getting into the back seat of the car. The result? Luke made it safely to his destination and hit the star stage at Rodeo Houston, as scheduled.
