In a statement, Underwood explained her decision to participate: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Still, Underwood has been, especially from the LGBTQ community, who gravitated toward her 2012 song of inclusivity, “Love Wins.
“We are announcing today that Village People have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump,” the band, which includes caricatures of a construction worker, a police officer, and a cowboy, said in a statement.
