It’s day three of the trial for the father of a Michigan school shooter.

An email from Oxford High School teacher Allison Karpinski concerning Ethan Crumbley is displayed during the trial of James Crumbley, father of Ethan, in the Oakland County Courtroom on Monday, March 11, 2024, in Pontiac, Mich. Crumbley is on trial for involuntary manslaughter in his 15-year-old son's killing of four students at Oxford High School.

Hopkins said he arranged for the Crumbleys to come to the school and met with Ethan before they arrived, trying to understand his mindset. The boy told him: “I can see why this looks bad. I’m not going to do” anything. Just a day earlier, Jennifer Crumbley had been called when a teacher saw Ethan looking up bullets on his phone, the counselor said.

Hopkins said James Crumbley never objected when his wife said they couldn't take Ethan home. And he said no one disclosed that a new gun had been purchased just four days earlier — one described by Ethan on social media as “my beauty.”“He was talking to his son and mentioned, ‘You have people you can talk to. You can talk to your counselor, you have your journal. We talk,'" Hopkins recalled.
