The Northeast Side councilman pleaded no contest to one count of obstruction of a highway, a Class B misdemeanor

District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte has accepted a plea deal in his driving while intoxicated case. Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped the drunken driving charge against Whyte, 44, and he in turn pleaded no contest to one count of obstruction of a highway. The Northeast Side councilman was fined and must complete 48 hours of community service.

Disbelief, silence, sympathy: How City Council responded behind the scenes to Marc Whyte’s DWI arrest Some members of the group, Whyte included, went to Thirsty Horse afterward. But Whyte drove councilwoman Cabello Havrda home before making his way to the dance hall. On the day he was arrested, Whyte had returned to San Antonio after a week-long family trip to Australia. He landed in Houston that morning, then drove back to San Antonio.

DA’s office charges Council Member Marc Whyte with DWI more than 6 months after arrest Whyte initially denied the accusation and told the Express-News he didn’t remember asking for the chief and said he never talked to him. In the June Express-News podcast, Whyte changed his story, saying he wanted to talk to McManus about his rights and the procedures he would be facing, not to lodge a complaint about his arrest.
