SDLP Councillor Joe Boyle says 'startling facts' in report 'should be a lesson to elected members'
A councillor from Ards and North Down Borough has hit out at reports and media coverage of the local authority’s response to washed-up seal carcasses.
Alderman Adair forwarded a successful motion stating that the council “notes the continuing issue of dead seals washed up on our beaches and coastline and the negative impact that this has on the use of beaches when the carcasses are not picked up in a timely manner.” “The timeline confirms that the seal was first reported on 23 November, but it wasn’t until 27 November that the appropriate department was provided with details in relation to the specific location. The seal was lifted on 29 November, giving a two day response time from the date on which A&PS received specific location information.
The report states: “there has been no considerable change in response times, although 2023 response times were in the slower end of average range.”
