She is the third City Council member and the first woman to announce a run for the open mayor’s seat in San Antonio’s May 2025 election.
City Council Member Adriana Rocha Garcia said Tuesday that she will run for mayor in the May 2025 election, ending months of speculation over whether she would forgo a fourth term representing the Southwest Side for a chance to lead the entire city. Rocha Garcia had been noncommittal for months. The council’s decision last week to place a city charter amendment on the November ballot that would extend City Council terms from two to four-years was a deciding factor.
The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Rocha Garcia is looking to make history as San Antonio’s first Latina mayor. She questions whether those who have entered the race so far will be prepared to lead the city through its looming financial challenges. District 9 Councilman John Courage announced his mayoral run January, and District 8 Councilman Manny Peláez launched his campaign in April. Both are in their fourth terms.
