England's Lionesses will face Spain in their first World Cup final this Sunday (August 20)
Nottingham City Council has announced if it will hold any screenings or events for the Women’s World Cup final. , but the City Council has announced it will not be organising any special showings of the final.
The council explained it would not be hosting any large screenings as events officers were preoccupied with preparations for Nottingham Carnival, which is also taking place on Sunday. The authority added the cost of a screening would "unfortunately be prohibitive". Celebrations and screenings have previously been hosted at Old Market Square and Nottingham Castle for Nottingham Forest's promotion in May 2022, the 2018 World Cup, and Eurovision. The council previously faced criticism after not being able to put on a celebratory event to mark Notts County's promotion back to the Football League in May, although it did later unsuccessfully attempt to hold one before the football club's preseason.
“There will undoubtedly be a number of local venues showing the game, but the council will not be hosting a large screening. Event officers are busy with final preparations for the Nottingham Carnival on Sunday, while the cost of a screening would unfortunately be prohibitive.”
