Could Draymond Green and Steve Kerr and even Klay Thompson or Jordan Poole be on the chopping block?

Eric Risberg/AP’ attention would be solely on game-planning and otherwise getting their minds right for the upcoming jittery offensive onslaught of their first-round opponents, the redeemed Sacramento Kings. That’s what this is supposed to all be about, after all. Doing the job of winning basketball games and so forth.

But the not-so-subtle subtext of this upcoming playoff run is an implied final referendum on a massively successful era of dominance that, let’s be clear, will never, ever happen again. Much of this is financially motivated, but some of it just boils down to old-fashioned power and control.

The dominoes are arrayed precariously. Whether they stand or fall comes down to the postseason success of a team that didn’t particularly set the regular season on fire. So, could this be it? The end? Could Draymond Green and Steve Kerr and even Klay Thompson or Jordan Poole be on the proverbial chopping block? It doesn’t seem possible, but a lot of things seem impossible until they happen.Far likeliest to be the first casualty of any tweaking of personnel or Stalinist-style purge, is general manager Bob Myers, a man I drank a beer next to once. He’s very tall.
