When the Texans walked off the field in Week 8, following a 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts , running their record to 6-2 on the season, their odds of winning the AFC South skyrockets into the mid-90 percentage range. They held a two-game lead in the standings, with the head to head tiebreaker secured, and a five game patch of schedule coming ip that included games with the Jets, Cowboys, Titans, and Jaguars. It felt like 10-3 going into the bye week was a distinct possibility.
The offense is inept, the offensive line is an embarrassment, and OC Bobby Slowik seems more like someone who got hired as a coordinator because he brushed up against Kyle Shanahan than because he truly internalized the essence of what makes Shanahan really good calling plays. Before we look at the schedules of the two teams, know this — the Texans SHOULD clinch this thing. The"magic number" that would clinch the division for the Texans is THREE. It's unlikely the Colts go undefeated the rest of the way, which means the Texans need to win TWO games out of the final five. That SHOULD happen.
Is it that hard to envision a scenario where the Texans go 1-4 down the stretch, and the Colts go 4-1? I say"no," and if that happens, it will be a much different vibe surrounding DeMeco Ryans, C.J. Stroud, and the Houston Texans come 2025. VERY different.
