However, if starter Kyle McCord had not been able to play at some point — not impossible, considering he is nursing his own sore ankle — Brown said he would have played. If the Buckeyes were ahead comfortably in the second half and needed a backup to finish off the win, that job would have gone to Tristan Gebbia.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day originally said Brown was expected to miss “a couple of weeks” after turning the ankle on a goal-line run against Penn State. Brown had been operating in that package for a couple of weeks in addition to being ready to replace McCord if needed. Brown sounded non-committal about how quickly the ankle might return to full health. Obviously the focus is on getting as many contributors as possible back and able to play at Michigan on Nov. 25.
