The New York Yankees are looking for an infielder after Gleyber Torres signed with the Detroit Tigers. Anthony Volpe is expected to be the starting shortstop with either Jazz Chisholm or Oswaldo Cabrera at second base. But the Yankees need to add someone before the season begins. Could Jose Iglesias be the answer? Iglesias missed half of the 2024 season and all of 2023. But when he played for the New York Mets he hit .337 with 26 RBI.
Iglesias is versatile defensively, playing second, shortstop, or third base. Even at 34 years old, he can still be an everyday player. The Yankees could use him in a platoon at second base. Iglesias is projected to make just $1.7 million in 2025, a manageable amount for the Yankees. In his last full season with the Rockies in 2022, he hit .292 with 47 RBI. Iglesias hasn't finished a season hitting below .250 since 2012. Iglesias is a good fit for the Yankees. His versatility would excite Aaron Boone, who could use him in many ways. Over his career, he's been better than Gleyber Torres offensively and defensively. The only downside to Iglesias is his age, but he isn't showing any signs of slowing down.
