Costco's Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon has been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria, a harmful bacteria. The FDA has classified the recall as Class 1, the highest risk level, indicating that consuming the recalled product could cause serious health consequences or death.

New information has emerged regarding a recent recall of Costco 's Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon . The recall, initially announced in October, has been officially classified as a Class 1 recall by the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ). A Class 1 recall signifies the highest risk level, meaning the use of the recalled product could lead to serious health consequences or even death.

The recall was initiated by Acme Smoked Fish Corporation, the manufacturer of the ready-to-eat salmon, after laboratory testing detected contamination with Listeria, a bacteria that can cause illness. The FDA reports that 111 cases of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon, packaged in twin 12-ounce containers, were affected by the recall. The specific products recalled carry a UPC number of 0 96619 25697 6, a lot number of 8512801270, and a best-by date of 11/13/2024. These packages were distributed to the Southeast Costco Distribution Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, and subsequently to Costco Warehouse stores throughout the state. While Acme Smoked Fish Corporation has stated that no illnesses related to the recall have been reported to date, concerns remain for consumers who may have purchased the fish and stored it in their freezers for later consumption. The FDA emphasizes the serious health risks associated with Listeria, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Symptoms of infection can range from high fever, severe headache, and stiffness to nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at an especially high risk, as Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths. Consumers who have purchased the recalled Kirkland Smoked Salmon are strongly advised not to consume the product. They are urged to return the product to their place of purchase for a full refund. For any questions or concerns regarding the recall, individuals can contact Acme Smoked Fish Corporation's customer service line at 718-383-8585, available Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST. Alternatively, consumers can reach out to the designated recall coordinators, Mary Lee Kluger at [email protected] or Matt Ranieri at [email protected]
