The trial of former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and her co-accused is only set to resume in mid-July. | kaveels
The State has accused them of being the main individuals who acted as primary contacts in an enterprise that conspired to rig DSW contracts, valued at over R320 million, to favour their preferred contractors and sub-contractors.
Thus far, Hittler has been painstakingly questioned by Gumede's lawyer Jay Naidoo and Madonsela on the intricacies of the initial documentation that seemingly implicated Gumede and others. While both lawyers have tried to find holes in the process of capturing the investigation at the CIIU, both Hittler and Ngcobo have given similar testimony to the origins of the investigation.
He said one document showed the contract would run for three months, while another indicated six months.

Free and Fair Elections in Zimbabwe? Scepticism Rises ...Zimbabwe will hold elections this year, and concerns have already been raised about the impartiality of the electoral commission. Political analysts have raised the alarm after changes at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), warning that if not managed correctly, it could have an impact on the standard of this year's polls. The commission has announced that Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, her deputy Rodney Kiwa and Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana will be solely responsible for ZEC's communication affairs, a development that has raised eyebrows, with some questioning the timing of the changes. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has yet to announce the exact date for the vote, but it has revealed that it would be held in either July or August 2023. The main political parties for the 2023 elections remain the Zanu-PF, which has been in power since independence in 1980, and the opposition Citizens Coalition For Change, formed in 2022 and led by Nelson Chamisa.
