KUALA LUMPUR: Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which has been donating its surplus food to soup kitchens, has extended the aid to more NGOs.
Since 2016, Tesco has been collaborating with Food Aid Foundation and Kechara Soup Kitchen, and has now added on Kembara Kitchen and RumahKita following the movement control order .
Tesco has also supplied equipment and food items to several hospitals, and has organised meal distribution to the police and military on the Covid-19 frontlines. According to Heineken Malaysia managing director Roland Bala, these people earn between RM600 and RM2,000 a month and support three to 12 family members.
Under the second phase in partnership with MyKasih Foundation, funds are channelled to the beneficiaries’ MyKad to be spent on food items such as rice, infant formula, canned food, eggs, cooking oil and biscuits at selected supermarkets.
