The states with higher recipiency rates for the full $1,200 per individual or $2,400 per couple amount are generally lower-income states.
To determine how many people will get $1,200 in every state, 24/7 Wall St. analyzed earnings and household type data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2018 American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample. Based on the March 2020 economic impact payment distribution guidelines issued by the Internal Revenue Service, we counted the number of single U.S.
Data on per capita income and poverty rate are also from the 2018 ACS. Data on the percentage of workers employed in high-risk industries is a 24/7 Wall St. calculation using 2018 annual employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages and identification of high-risk industries from the March 2020 paper “COVID-19: A Fiscal Stimulus Plan”
