BRITAIN'S shutdown is successfully cutting the surge in coronavirus infections, a senior health chief declared last night.
Prof Stephen Powis, the medical director of NHS England, said the rate in new cases of people testing positive for the killer virus had hit “a bit of a plateau” following the first week of draconian “social distancing” measures. But he warned that the first signs of “green shoots” of recovery should not lead to any letting up in the national effort to curb the spread of the epidemic.
