COLLEAGUES of a surgeon who became one of the first frontline NHS workers to die from coronavirus were comforted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The staff at Queen's Hospital in Burton upon Trent, Staffs, said the call was totally unexpected. Amged El-Hawrani, 55, a consultant ear nose and throat specialist, died in Leicester on Saturday. He had been fit and healthy before contracting the virus. A group of seven staff, including some who knew him well, spoke about their loss during a 25-minute conference call with the royal couple on Wednesday.
