SOME NHS patients suffering from severe coronavirus infections are to be treated with an anti-Ebola drug after trials proved it can speed their recovery, the Health Secretary announced last night.
Matt Hancock hailed the confirmation of the treatment’s effectiveness as “the biggest step forward since the crisis began.” Remdesivir, an anti-viral medicine, can shorten recovery time for sufferers from the virus by around four days, he said. Mr Hancock revealed that the treatment, developed during the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in Africa, is to be made available for coronavirus yesterday after new official data showed another drop in deaths from the disease.
