WASHINGTON - Three of the four authors behind a large-scale study in The Lancet that raised safety fears over the use of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19 retracted their paper on Thursday .
The dataset used in the study, a retrospective analysis of patient records, had come under serious scrutiny in recent weeks, with dozens of scientists expressing concerns over its authenticity in an open letter. One of the authors, Sapan Desai, who heads a little-known firm called Surgisphere that supplied the data, did not join the retraction.
