Roy Cropper may prove to be Yasmeen Nazir's saviour on CoronationStreet

Coronation Street has seen a 17-month high in ratings due to a week of episodes that focused on the coercive control narrative surrounding characters Geoff Matcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir.

The Friday night episode of the soap focused solely on Yasmeen, played by Shelley King, and Geoff, played by Ian Batholomew, as they go about their day. After crying through the verbal abuse he poured over her, Yasmeen eventually snapped and hit him over the head with a bottle of wine before using it to stab him in the neck.

Looking into the horrifying event, Roy tells Tim Metcalfe, played by Joe Duttine, that he's "barely heard Yasmeen raise her voice in anger," suggesting that he might believe she's innocent of the crime. "Watching the Geoff and Yasmeen storyline in Coronation Street is making me cry and feel all kinds of sadness, really, really, really well acted. @itvcorrie," one person wrote.View gallery Another praised the series as they said: "I know it's only a programme but they've covered the story really well concerning mental abuse. #coronationstreet #Yasmeen".

In response to the 276 complaints that were made, a representative said: "We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate."
