BREAKING: Coronation Street filming shut down amid coronavirus crisis

With the popular soap being a heavily populated workplace, it has been confirmed that filming for future episodes has now been suspended as bosses put the welfare of staff and production teams at the forefront of their priorities.A spokesperson for ITV explained: ‘ITV has sadly taken the decision to suspend production of the soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale with effect from Monday 23 March.

‘We’ve been doing our best to carry on filming, whilst adhering to the Government’s latest health guidelines, to ensure we’ve episodes of both soaps airing on ITV until at least the early summer. ‘However, the health and well-being of the production teams, actors, crew and their families is of paramount importance to us and we now feel that the time has come to stop filming. We’d like to thank our viewers for their support and hope they continue to enjoy both soaps in the coming months.’It is not yet known how this will directly impact the airing of the show given that they have filmed episodes 6-8 weeks in advance. However there is likely to be scheduling disruptions.

ITV have confirmed they will issue updates and are closely monitoring the situation with a view to getting production ongoing at the earliest and safest opportunity. Coronation Street is not the only major British staple to be shut down over the virus, with numerous sporting events, venues, gatherings and gigs pulled over safety fears.– we’d love to hear from you.
