The president of Green Prairie Environmental Ltd. criticized the vote as 'a political decision.'
Green Prairie president Richard Weldon said he was “obviously disappointed” with the decision.
“How can they justify housing next to a landfill? It’s not an appropriate use, so here we have compatibility issues, and you end up with political decisions that go against the best use of the community,” Weldon said. The RM councillors also heard questions and comments from people in the gallery; at least 10 people who identified themselves as area residents or business owners spoke against Green Prairie’s proposal, while only one person — a woman who said she was from Saskatoon — spoke in favour of it.
“I think that room was stacked with friends of certain councillors that were against it, and they were allowed to speak when we were told we couldn’t bring people in,” Weldon said.
