KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP lawmaker says the police should allow the Save Malaysia Movement rally scheduled for this Saturday (Sept 16) to go on.

Syahredzan Johan said although he did not support the rally organised by Perikatan Nasional, the police should allow them to carry on.“We have long fought for the right to gather peacefully.“I don’t want us to forget that our battle also began from the streets,” he told the Dewan Rakyat when debating the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review on Thursday .

This comes after Perikatan Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari announced that the wing would be holding a Save Malaysia Movement rally on Sept 16 to protest the outcome of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s graft cases. The High Court had granted Ahmad Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
