KOTA KINABALU: The Lahad Datu Umno division meeting had to be stopped after a fight broke out between members on Saturday (March 18) afternoon.

A video of the said incident showing several men punching and pushing one another while the emcee tried to call for calm, has been circulating online.

Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Rohan Shah Ahmad said the incident was believed to have sparked due to a provocation and misunderstanding. "Following reports of the incident at around 2.45pm at the Dewan Sri Perdana, our team was sent to respond," he said in a statement.ACP Rohan said they also identified two main suspects in the incident.

He said both suspects, aged 33 and 38, were brought in to facilitate investigations under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code. "We will forward this case to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions," said ACP Rohan.
