KOTA TINGGI: The police arrested two Indonesian men for possessing contraband cigarettes worth RM5,000 during an inspection of premises at Taman Kota Jaya here on Sunday (June 21).
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said that the inspection was conducted by the Kota Tinggi District Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at about 10.30pm.
He said that a car parked outside the premises found 72 cartons of contraband cigarettes hidden inside a box, and added that it is believed that the cigarettes were smuggled. “The duo, aged 26 and 59, were then brought to the police station, ” he said in a statement here on Tuesday . Supt Hussin added that police have confiscated the cigarettes and the vehicle, and also said that the inspection also found that the suspects do not have any travel documentation.
The suspects are currently under remand for 14 days, and the case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
