The African Transformation Movement and Cope have described the landing of the UAE president’s fleet of aircraft as a reminiscent of the Waterkloof air base from the Gupta family 10 years ago.
CAPE TOWN - Pressure is mounting on President Cyril Ramaphosa and Cabinet ministers to explain special allowances that may have been granted to the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to land a fleet of aircraft at a military airport in the Eastern Cape.
The parties called on government to explain what special exemptions were made to facilitate the use of the airport, which the UAE ruler reportedly upgraded to accommodate the landing of his aircraft. Cope spokesperson Dennis Bloem said he failed to understand why the entourage received special treatment.
