Negotiations around funding for loss and damage due to climate change have collapsed and have been referred to the COP27 presidency to intervene
Pakistan lobbied for the loss and damage clause to be included in the COP27 negotiations following devastating floods this year which left vast parts of the country under water. It is hoped that the talks may be extended until the weekend.
This is the first time that the item of loss and damage made it to the agenda after many year of trying by developing nations. He added that if there was no agreement in the negotiating streams the matters would be elevated to ministers and ultimately the COP presidency if it was necessary.
