PUTRAJAYA: A police officer was sentenced to 10 months in jail and fined RM10,000 today for accepting a bribe to switch the urine samples of two suspects from positive to negative 13 years ago.
Shahrul, who was represented by Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, was immediately handcuffed and taken to serve his prison term as the Court of Appeal was the final appellate court.Shahrul, who was attached to the state narcotics unit, received RM1,000 on Nov 1, 2007 from Mohamed Mustaqim Othman as an inducement to change the urine samples of his brother, Mohammad Farzus Othman, and his brother-in-law, Che Asri Che Nat.
She later told reporters that the case had taken an exceptionally long time to conclude as Shahrul was first acquitted by the Sessions Court without his defence called.
