Start of the weekend brings cooler air, but another storm expected midweek with a chance of rain and snow.
After setting record-breaking temperatures across Arizona yesterday, the start of the weekend has brought cooler conditions. Highs in the Valley are ranging in the low 70s, while temperatures elsewhere across the state are 5 to 15 degrees lower. These cooler temperatures will hold steady through the weekend, but by midweek, another storm is expected to move into Arizona. This storm will bring more seasonal temperatures along with a slight chance of rain and snow.
The first storm, which passed to the north, has ushered in cooler air, causing a noticeable drop in afternoon temperatures. Highs will remain in the lower 70s through Tuesday, while mornings in the Valley will hold around the mid-40s. The Valley is still dealing with elevated levels of small particle pollution (dust and smoke). The worst air quality will occur in the morning, gradually improving throughout the day. A Burn Ban will be in effect starting Sunday across Maricopa County, prohibiting the use of wood-burning fireplaces, stoves, and outdoor firepits. The second storm, arriving midweek, looks more promising as weather models predict an area of low pressure will move into Arizona. This will bring cooler, more seasonable temperatures for the latter half of the week. This storm will also bring breezy conditions across the state, with a chance of rain in the Valley and snow in the higher elevations. Rainfall and snowfall amounts will depend on the storm’s track, but recent models have shown increased activity
