Richard Allen was sentenced to the maximum 130 years for the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

The man convicted in the 2017 murders of two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana , was sentenced to 130 years in prison on Friday. Special Judge Fran Gull sentenced Richard Allen to the maximum of 130 years in the killings of 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German. Last month, a jury found Allen guilty of two counts of murder and two additional counts of murder while committing or attempting to commit kidnapping in the killings.

Allen was sentenced on two of the four murder counts by Gull, who imposed the maximum of 65 years for each count, to be served consecutively. The sentencing hearing, which included victim impact statements from six relatives of the teens, lasted less than two hours, and after it concluded, one of Allen's defense attorneys said they plan to appeal and seek a new trial. Allen has 30 days to ask for an appeal. 'Our thoughts and prayers do go out to the families. What they’ve been through is unimaginable and horrible and on behalf of Rick, we are looking forward to an appeal,' said Jennifer Auger, a defense attorney. Allen had faced between 45 years and 130 years in prison in the killings of the Delphi teens. 'There is zero doubt that justice has been served and today is the day,' said Carroll County Sheriff Tony Liggett. Allen, 52, was arrested in October 2022. He became a suspect after Kathy Shank, a retired state government worker who had volunteered to help police with the investigation, found paperwork in September 2022 showing that Allen had contacted authorities two days after German and Williams’ bodies were found. 'Without her, we would not be here. Without her, we would not have an arrest, conviction and a sentence,' said Nick McLeland, the Carroll County prosecutor. That paperwork indicated that Allen had told an officer he had been on the hiking trail the afternoon the girls went missing, according to testimony. 'These families live every day without two of the most important people in their lives.
