Campaigners warn that including a “consent” clause will effectively neuter the bill – as the overwhelming majority of conversion therapy practitioners prey on LGBT+ people who are desperate to change their sexuality or gender identity.: “If these reports are true it will mean that all our work over the past five years has been utterly in vain, the proposed legislation will have a loophole so large to render it meaningless.
A spokesperson for LGBT+ charity Stonewall said: “We are alarmed by reports that the ban will include a ‘consent clause’.
