Converse City Council nixes rezoning request near Hanover Cove subdivision
Converse City Council struck down an effort to rezone 28.2 acres of land along Loop 1604 for a multi-family development that drew the ire of residents of the neighboring Hanover Cove subdivision.
Joyous calls of “We appreciate you all,” “Thanks for listening to us,” and “Thank you all so very much, you don’t know how much this means to us” filled the room after City Council’s 7-0 vote that went against a staff recommendation for the project. The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission had also green-lighted the project at an earlier meeting.
The 200 homes would be one-and-two story structures, unlike apartment complexes and more resembling the nearby Hanover Cove homes. But council members said they heard the subdivision’s residents, who turned out at several meetings to voice their overwhelming displeasure with the plan. “Staff has taken a look at it. Our recommendation is approval,” Segovia said. “Our biggest thing is the traffic concerns.
