American rapper DaBaby is set to perform in South Africa on 30 September at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

DaBaby's performance has attracted backlash due to his past controversial statements and actions.

In 2021, he came under fire for homophobia and misogyny at the Rolling Loud Miami festival. DaBaby also brought Tory Lanez on stage after he was accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. At the time the 31-year-old later stood by his comments, however shortly thereafter he apologised for some of his comments, especially regarding references to AIDS/HIV.

A video of DaBaby assaulting a woman in a nightclub also sparked public outrage in 2020. He hit the woman after she shined a flashlight into his face. He later apologised and offered to meet the woman in person.the rapper wrote on Instagram:"I do apologise that there was a female on the other end … keep in mind, I couldn’t see you because you got the flash this close to me … I wish you could have respected me."In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
