But superimposed on the image was the politically-charged slogan “Make America Great Again,” used by President Trump in his presidential campaigns.“As soon as I was made aware of the billboard featuring a politicized image of Bloody Sunday, I immediately inquired whether it had been purchased by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts . Upon learning that is was, I requested that the image be removed from all billboards without delay.
“We will review this process to ensure that such missteps are not repeated in the future, while continuing to support the important role the MMFA plays is our community.” The Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, also reacted to the billboard, saying it “echoes sentiments and supports his decision to remove the billboard.”
