The Ruby Tower, a 980-foot container ship, is currently aground in Mobile Bay north of Galliard Island.The Alabama Port Authority can confirm that a container ship ran aground north of Gaillard Island early this afternoon while departing the Port of Mobile.
The vessel, Ruby Tower, departed APM Terminals at approximately 11:00 a.m. It experienced a loss of steering power around 1:00 p.m., causing it to run aground just east of the channel. Two pilots were on board at the time of the incident. There are tugboats on scene to stabilize the vessel.
