Trump says his administration is 'closing up Democrat programs that we disagree with and they're never going to open again.' The president says officials will present a list of targeted programs on Friday.

A long-anticipated improvement is on the way for one of Enterprise’s busiest intersections. A new traffic signal will soon be installed at the intersection of State Highway 27 and Shellfield Road, bringing much-needed safety enhancements and improved traffic flow to the area.

Construction on the project is expected to start soon. This project is part of the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program II and has been a local and regional priority for several years. The City of Enterprise contributed $400,000 to cover engineering and design costs, demonstrating the city's strong commitment to improving infrastructure and public safety. “Improving this intersection has been a top priority for me, the Enterprise City Council, and our residents for years,” said Mayor William E. Cooper. “This project directly addresses long-standing safety concerns and growing traffic demands in our community. We’re proud to invest in solutions that protect our citizens, and we’re grateful for ALDOT’s continued partnership in bringing this critical improvement to life.” People are also reading… Originally proposed as a roundabout in January 2021, the project was revised following additional traffic studies. After receiving public input during a June 2022 public meeting and through further analysis, the Alabama Department of Transportation opted to move forward with signalization instead of a roundabout. A second in-person public meeting was held in August 2024 at the Enterprise Civic Center to review the updated design and gather additional feedback. According to ALDOT, the change in design came after reviewing projected traffic volumes and safety metrics, along with funding availability. The updated signal design is expected to better accommodate current and future traffic needs, especially given the significant growth in the Enterprise area and the connection to Fort Rucker via Shellfield Road. The intersection of Highway 27 and Shellfield Road has seen increasing traffic due to local growth, and safety improvements at this location are expected to benefit both residents and commuters traveling between Enterprise and Ozark, as well as Fort Rucker personnel.
